Oppressed Lemmings

Awaken this sense of longing in me to belong

even as I’m ostracized, the scapegoat for all our problems and symbolic oppression

Less than human, without a say or sense of worth as each brick slowly crumbles with inequality

Give away your basic human rights as a symbol of good faith,

until you are no more than a slave shambling through life,

shackled at the feet of those that tread over a walking corpse

Continue the retreat, giving inches and yards as the precipice draws closer

Backed into the corner, we’re left with no choice but to involuntarily  leap

Still believing that it’s all our fault even as we fall.

Pessimist Poet’s Words For Thought

“There is just so much hurt, disappointment, and oppression one can take… The line between reason and madness grows thinner.” -Rosa Parks
