Candle Flame

I once viewed love as something to cherish,

combining two halves to create a concept completed.

Holy matrimony serves as the apex of a fulfilled life

but the naivete in me blinded me so,

and I failed to notice the glean of the knife as it plunged into bone.

It was foolish to see you as mine;

I should have realized it was simply my turn.

For better or for worse, a decaying chivalry as loyalty serves a party of one.

To build relationships upon pyres that blaze brilliantly in their passion is vain,

fires fading into the night and consuming lovers amidst the flames in heated embrace

All the memories and sacrifices amount to nothing,

collecting dust and mold from the gloom in this declining mind palace.

True love is but an indoctrinated fool’s dream;

Intimacy will turn into tragedy as our wick slowly burns.

Author’s Words for Thought

“People. Falling for each others’ pretensions, fakeness and whatever various faces they can put on to wear. And then they call it love. What a fantasy. What a blasphemy. Humanity bores me.” -C. Joybell
